Friday Flashback #43 - Oh Canada!

Hockey season is nearly upon us and we're heading North of the border this week to honor our Maple Leafed neighbors. In the arena of Canadian Rock, there is none better than Bryan Adams, even if there are mega-continuity issues in his video. The girl comes in, changes to a bikini, exits the changing stall in a one-piece, and then climbs the diving platform in a bikini. Hello?!?! Loverboy - skipping the song with the COWBELL, we jump back to 1980 for Turn Me Loose. Men Without Hats were more pop, but they gave us a video with a medieval wench and a midget, you gotta like that. And finally, Glass Tiger, a one album wonder and YES that is Bryan Adams helping them out with backing vocals on this song.

Bryan Adams - Cuts Lke a Knife

Loverboy - Turn Me Loose

Glass Tiger - Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Ah, Hockey season...thanks for the reminder. We are Pens fans, of course, and are pretty excited about this year. :)

At least we won't have to deal with all the new arena talk this year because the plans are already set.

I use to hate watching hockey because I couldn't keep up...I can't believe you actually have to practice watching a sport. It helped that my husband watches all the hockey he can.

Thanks for sharing the tunes!

You won't believe this, but just this week I heard "Don't Forget Me" and thought, "Who was that band? And who is that soloist? Is it Bryan Adams?" And voila, you answered my burning question.

it's interesting that the majority of Brian Adams fans are American... Up here in Canada - we'd bury him in an Igloo if he'd ever leave his flat in England.

all our "National Treasures" like:
Nickleback, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and Brian Adams should all be shipped on a bus to Siberia - but then the Siberians would hate us. :D

I've never been a real hockey fan but will have to check it out this season to see what all the fuss is about.

You took me back to the "good ole days"! I grew up in the 80's to all those songs. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!

What a great video (The Safety Dance). One of my early MTV faves.

Hockey fans unite! My cousin is "Thoughts of the Mama", and I got your blog via Amy's blog...

I am a Pens fan, of course... son plays hockey & is a Caps and Pens fan too (you should see us when the Caps play the Pens!)

Greetings Friends!

Linda, glad you lied it and that I could be of service. The Friday Flashback is my own personal meme, and I try to have a theme every week.

Mel - yeah, I lost track of him sometime after he started doing movie tunes, but I saw him at least twice back in the day. My older brother went to see him with Survivor instead of going to Prom.

diva - have you seen the South Park movie? The Canadian government apologizes for Bryan Adams in the movie! I like Shania and tolerate a bit of Celine. Nickelback is kinda mind-numbing because every song sounds alike.

kats - you need to see it live. It made all the diference for me. I had tried watching on TV before and didn't know the rules and found it hard to keep up, but my brother took me to a game last year (he has season tickets) so I now believe in Blueland. Go Thrashers!

retrodaddy - wassup Mike?!? Thanks for the input. I know I can always expect to heaqr from you on Friday because of the Flashback.

Hockeymom - Thanks for the comments, visit every Friday for the Flashback, and as I said before, Go Thrashers!

I've never been much of a hockey fan. I did go to a game once and had fun. Maybe I'll go again some day!

I am not much of a hockey fan either. But that is going to have to change. I have two boys that have expressed interest in it. I also have a nephew that is very involved in Hockey.

I don't even know what teams I should be pulling for? I really need to learn the rules of the game as well.
