Friday Flashback #25 - Concert for Hope

In the mid-1980's Amnesty International came to the highest point of it's worldwide attention supporting human rights and drawing attention to states that violated them for political reasons. A number of popular musicians toured to raise awareness and raise money for the cause. The first video, for the song Biko by Peter Gabriel is about one such individual. Stephen Biko was a journalist in South Africa during the reign of Apartheid. He was jailed for many years and eventually died in prison, murdered by the government. An awesome movie, Cry Freedom, depicts this story starring Denzel Washington in one of his first roles as Biko and Kevin Kline as a fellow journalist who tries to raise awareness of Biko's plight in South Africa and across the world.

Peter Gabriel - Biko

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday

Sting - Set Them Free

Bryan Adams - Run to You

Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side
