First Friday Meeting

As part of our adoption process, Amy and I attend a monthly support group with people ranging from those with questions about international adoption to those in the process and those who have completed their trips to China. They are held on the first Friday of each month.

Tonight was the best one I have been to as we learned about another couple's experience getting the phone call with details of their "match." They videotaped the call from their agency with the director telling them about the baby, name, height, weight, physical exam, birth date, etc. They then were emailed their first picture of their baby and the parents with grandparents and other relatives all crowded around the computer to see baby Laney. I cried through most of it because I had no idea that a call like this would be part of the process and I was filled with a joy and excitement about the day this happens for us.

Also, I finally got to meet a friend's husband. He is in the Army and has been in Kuwait for the past six months while she has been waiting for him and for their referal. We enjoyed dinner together before the meeting and he's a neat guy that we look forward to becoming close friends with.

Seems that pretty soon you'll experience the joy that is to have a son/daughter. I have three, a boy and two girls and they in turned have given me five grandkids and one more is on the way. And I'm only 47 years old, so I get to play with all of them without losing my patience because I am in fact still a kid at heart.

I wish you the best and hope that the wait goes fast. Hopefuly I'll still be visiting this blog to hear the good news.

Have you been given any idea how long your wait will be? It's nice that you and Amy can get together with others in the same situation.

Congrats on your first meeting Michael. I remember my first meeting with our families with children from china. :-)

Lynne, right now the wait is about 18 months. It could increase or decrease. We'll be patient.

Robin, just to clarify, the event is called First Friday. It was our 6th one we've attended.

I remember seeing our daughters picture for the first time! My hubs and I were in tears, but smiling the whole time!

I've really been enjoying reading about your's and Amy's experience. My husband and I really want to adopt one day. At least one child. So it's been interesting to read about other's experience. I would like to encourage you to be strong. Take one day at a time. Hang in there. It seems like a long time away, but it'll happen. :-)
